Comparative Advantages

  1. Access to Mercosur. Misiones is the Argentine province best positioned to capitalize on the international trade generated by Mercosur, a common market made up by 6 countries and a population of 295 million, representing the world’s fifth economy. According to the WTO, in 2015, transportation services in Mercosur related to imports and exports totaled USD 30 billion.
  2. Multimodal logistics layout. 40% of the export cost of products from the Argentine Northeast account for the shipping of cargo to the Buenos Aires port. The roads system of Misiones, the Uruguay and Paraná rivers, and the international bridges with Paraguay and Brazil offer an optimal logistics corridor for cargo transportation (below you can see maps of the Provincial Roads Administration Office).
  3. The upcoming commissioning of the Posadas and Santa Ana ports will endow the Province with port infrastructure to increase the use of rivers for cargo transportation with a resulting reduction in logistics costs.
  4. Enclave in regional logistics corridors. The location of Misiones is strategic because it allows to take advantage of the bi-oceanic corridor, not only to give Paraguay’s products access to the sea, but also to connect international trade between Chile and Brazil. Due to the Province’s location, the COSIPLAN corridors that include Misiones, based on works planning, are MCC (Mercosur-Chile), HPP (Paraguay-Paraná Waterway), and IOC (Central Interoceanic Corridor).
  5. Growing demand for logistics services. Thanks to new investments that will strengthen the forest products industry and the progress of renewable energy projects, the Province of Misiones will see an increase in the demand for cargo transportation and, therefore, further investments in logistics and transportation will be required.
